Since the 1970’s the Adoptive Families of The Capital Region (AFCR) has been supporting adoptive families in New York’s Capital Region. Over time AFCR has merged with numerous adoption support groups and in 2006 took its new name - Adoptive Families of the Capital Region. AFCR is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit incorporation that is run completely by volunteers. AFCR events and membership are open to all who have an interest in adoption. Our membership represents families formed through domestic infant, older child, special needs, foster care and international adoption from over 20 countries. Prospective parents and adoption professionals are also AFCR members. While many of AFCR’s families live in the immediate Capital Region – Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga counties- AFCR has had individuals who live in Greene, Columbia, Dutchess, Montgomery, Warren, Washington county and beyond attend its events.
AFCR is a member of New York State Citizens’ Coalition for Children, Inc. and North American Council on Adoptable Children.
While AFCR’s programs are open to the general public its programs are made possible through the support of membership dues which pays for AFCR’s insurance, room fees, voice mail, p.o. box, website and other expenses. Please consider supporting AFCR with your membership.
